Translations for Sodium (1.19 → 1.21.8) – Make Sodium Speak Your Language

I stumbled onto this project when I was helping a friend set up a modpack for quái vật non-English speakers. Sodium worked great until they couldn’t understand any settings or toggles. That’s when we added Translations for Sodium and it clicked: suddenly, options like “Chunk Loading” and “Render Distance” made sense in their language. From that moment, it became for me what a mod should be: accessible.

What Translations for Sodium Achieves

  • It’s a community-driven translation pack that localizes the Sodium mod’s interface and settings making it readable for players who don’t use English.
  • Licensed under Creative Commons Zero (CC0‑1.0), meaning you’re free to use, modify, or bundle it in modpacks without asking for permission.
  • Available across multiple platforms: as a resource pack (via Modrinth or CurseForge) or from the project’s GitHub.

How It Works & Community Involvement

Contributing is structured and inclusive:

  • All translations happen through the Crowdin platform you register, translate phrases, suggest edits, or vote on submissions.
  • The project syncs updates every Saturday, so new or improved translations appear regularly.
  • You can request additional languages or offer to proofread via Crowdin Discussions.

Some languages are excluded for now, fictional or very minor languages (with less than 1 million speakers) aren’t supported, due to moderation challenges.

Latest Versions & Compatibility

  • Compatible with Minecraft versions 1.17.1 through 1.21.8, including most modern Sodium builds.
  • The latest release, v4.49.0, came out on August 9, 2025, targeting versions 1.21.x and 1.20.x.
  • Even older versions (like v2.1.0 for 1.20.1) are available, with the full changelog accessible on Modrinth.

Installation & Usage

  • Download: Get the resource pack from Modrinth, CurseForge, or GitHub release pages.
  • Enable: Place it in your resource packs folder and load it before launching the game no special configs needed.
  • Update: Use launchers like Modrinth App, CurseForge, or modpack installers (e.g. packwiz) to simplify updates.
  • If you see untranslated phrases or mistakes, submit an issue via Crowdin or propose corrections directly.

Why It Stands Out

FeatureBenefit for Players
CC0 LicenseFree to use, modify, redistribute
Weekly UpdatesUp-to-date translations automatically
Crowdin PlatformCollaborative, vetted, and easy to use
Broad Version SupportWorks with both older and latest Minecraft
Resource Pack FormatSimple installation, no mod conflicts

Translations for Sodium strikes me as one of the most elegant community projects you can add to a mod. It doesn’t tweak performance, visuals, or mechanics it simply makes the app usable for more people. Every time I handed the settings GUI to someone who read it in their own language, they smiled and said, “Now I get it.”

If you’re curating or building a modpack for a multilingual audience or just want your own interface in your native language this translation pack is essential.
