Find the TNT – Hidden Block Hunting Mini-Game
DATAPACKHunt for a hidden piece of super-powered TNT using distance clues and limited guesses to win.
Find the TNT is a data pack that turns any Minecraft world into a tense, puzzle-like mini-game. One block in a defined play area is secretly replaced with a piece of super-powered TNT. Your goal is to locate that block before you run out of guesses or time. Each attempt reveals how far away the hidden TNT is, letting you narrow down its position through deduction. However, if you mine the wrong block and it happens to be the TNT, the game ends immediately. This pack is ideal for server admins, content creators, or anyone looking for a quick, lighthearted challenge without installing heavy mods.
The main problem this solves is the lack of simple, setup-free party games in vanilla Minecraft. Instead of building complex redstone contraptions, you can launch a game with a single command. The pack works in any dimension (Overworld, Nether, End) and respects world borders. It is honest about its limits: the play area is a square or rectangular region defined by a diameter setting, and the TNT is always placed on a solid block surface. It does not include visual clues or map markers — you rely purely on numeric distance feedback and your own spatial reasoning.
- Two game modes – Choose between Limited Time (time decreases with each guess) or Guess Limit (unlimited time but a fixed number of guesses). Both modes can be configured.
- Adjustable play area – Set the arena diameter (in blocks) via the settings menu, from a small 16-block square to a large 128-block area.
- Distance feedback – After each guess, the pack tells you exactly how many blocks away the TNT is (measured in 3D). No directional hints — only distance.
- Easy setup commands – Use /function findthetnt:start_game to begin, /function findthetnt:end_game to stop early, and /function findthetnt:settings to change mode and area size. /function findthetnt:set_world_center moves the arena center to your current location.
- Safe by design – The TNT cannot be triggered by fire, redstone, or explosions; only direct mining ends the game. Other blocks in the arena are normal and breakable.
Requirements: Minecraft Java Edition 1.17 or higher (tested up to 1.20). A single-player world or multiplayer server with command blocks enabled. No other packs or mods needed. The area must be set before starting — the pack will refuse to start if the arena center or size is invalid. All players in the world share the same hunt; it is not a per-player game. The pack does not save game state between sessions.
