Trinkets Totem Support – Cape-Slot Totem of Undying

DATAPACK

A datapack that lets a Totem of Undying work from the Trinkets cape slot, consuming it on death without needing to hold it.

In standard Minecraft, a Totem of Undying demands a hand or off-hand slot to trigger its lifesaving effect. This often forces players to choose between carrying a shield, tool, or block and keeping a totem ready. With the Trinkets Updated mod installed, you gain an extra cape slot that normally sits idle. This datapack gives that slot a practical use: you can place a totem there, and it will behave exactly as if you were holding it when fatal damage occurs.

This setup suits adventurers who want to keep their off-hand free for a shield or a torch while exploring dangerous caves, building on high ledges, or fighting mobs. It also benefits players who prefer a cleaner inventory layout and don't want to swap items mid-combat. By moving the totem into a dedicated equipment slot, you reduce clutter and avoid accidental misclicks during tense moments.

  • Totem of Undying activates from the Trinkets cape slot when you take fatal damage.
  • Standard effects are applied: absorption, regeneration, and fire resistance, just like a held totem.
  • No need to hold the item; your main hand and off-hand remain free for other gear.
  • Works only with the cape slot added by Trinkets Updated; other slots are untouched.
  • Lightweight datapack – drop it into a world folder, run /reload, and it's active.

Requirements: The Trinkets Updated mod must be installed on your server or client. This datapack is world-specific; place it inside the datapacks folder of your save. No additional mods, resource packs, or configuration steps are needed. Without Trinkets Updated present, the datapack has no effect. The totem in the cape slot is consumed upon death, exactly like a held totem, and cannot be recovered.
