Better Mount HUD - Improved Riding HUD
MODKeeps your food bar visible and hides the jump bar until you jump, improving the mount riding HUD.
When riding a horse, donkey, or other mount in Minecraft, the default HUD hides your food bar entirely and replaces the experience bar with a permanent jump bar — even when you are not trying to jump. This creates two problems: you cannot see your own hunger level (which can be critical during long journeys or combat), and the jump bar takes up space that could otherwise show your experience. Better Mount HUD solves both issues by displaying your food bar and your mount’s health bar at the same time, and by only swapping the experience bar for the jump bar while you are actually holding the jump key.
This mod is aimed at players who spend significant time on horseback, whether for exploration, transport, farming, or traveling between bases. It is also useful for those who play survival mode and need to monitor both their own hunger and their mount’s health without opening the inventory. Because it is client-side only, you can install it on your own game without requiring server-side modifications — it works in both single-player and on any multiplayer server that allows client-side modifications.
- Your food bar remains visible at all times while riding a mount, so you never lose track of your hunger.
- Your mount’s health bar appears alongside your own health and food, giving you a clear view of both vitals in one glance.
- The experience bar is only replaced by the jump bar while you are actively jumping; otherwise the bar shows your normal experience level.
- No configuration files or keybinds needed — the mod works automatically after installation.
- Compatible with vanilla horses, donkeys, mules, and most modded mounts that use the standard riding HUD system.
Better Mount HUD requires Minecraft Forge or Fabric (check the mod’s file page for compatible versions). It is a client-side mod only; no server-side installation is necessary. The mod does not alter mount behavior, stats, or controls — it only adjusts the visual display of the HUD. Tested with Minecraft 1.20 and 1.21, but always verify version compatibility before installing.
