Colorless (Black and White) Shader

SHADER

Turn your Minecraft world black and white with this lightweight shader, adding shadows, fog, and configurable lighting.

Colorless is a lightweight Minecraft shader that renders the entire world in black and white. Designed for players who want a monochrome aesthetic without sacrificing performance, it strips away color to reduce visual clutter and improve frame rates on lower-end hardware. The shader also includes realistic shadows, volumetric fog, and dynamic lighting that reacts to held items like torches — all while remaining highly configurable.

This shader is ideal for players using older PCs, integrated graphics, or those who simply prefer a grayscale look. It solves the problem of color overload in bright biomes and helps players focus on contrast and shape. However, note that colors are inverted on first load; open the shader settings and disable the inverted option to correct this. For best results, set your in-game brightness to 0%.

  • Turns the entire world black and white (configurable)
  • Adds dynamic shadows and fog for depth
  • Holding a torch or similar item emits light around the player
  • Colored lighting support — glass casts colored shadows when enabled
  • Red light effect around the player when hurt (can be toggled off)
  • Optimized for low-performance PCs

Colorless is a potato-friendly shader that works with OptiFine or Iris. It requires a graphics card supporting OpenGL 3.3 or higher. The shader settings allow you to toggle graytorchlight (gray vs orange torch glow), coloredGlassShadows, redRadiusIfHurt, and the base blacknwhite mode. While it adds shadows and fog, do not expect ultra-realistic effects — this shader prioritizes simplicity and speed over visual complexity.
