Heliox - Cinematic Shaderpack for Realistic Minecraft Visuals

SHADER

Heliox adds stunning visuals to Minecraft with cinematic lighting, shadows, and reflections.

Heliox is a Minecraft shaderpack that solves the problem of flat, lifeless lighting in the default game. It replaces the basic lighting engine with dynamic global illumination, volumetric fog, and ray-traced shadows that bring depth and realism to every block. The shaderpack is intended for players who want to capture cinematic screenshots, record high-quality videos, or simply enjoy a more visually striking survival world. It works best on mid-to-high-end GPUs due to the computational cost of real-time shadow mapping and reflection processing.

Built around a custom color grading pipeline, Heliox adjusts hue, saturation, and contrast to create a warm, natural palette that avoids oversaturation or washed-out tones. Sky rendering uses a multi-layer atmosphere model with realistic sunrise, sunset, and twilight transitions. Water reflections update in real time, while emissive blocks like glowstone and lanterns emit true area light that casts soft shadows—adding ambiance both above and below ground.

  • Cinematic lighting: Dynamic sun, moon, and torch light with soft shadows that change with time of day.
  • Reflective water & blocks: Planar reflections on water, ice, and polished surfaces for improved realism.
  • Volumetric fog & clouds: Layered fog that reacts to height and biome, plus 3D cloud shadows.
  • Enhanced sky & atmosphere: Custom sun/moon textures, starfields, and atmospheric scattering for vivid horizons.
  • Optimized performance profile: Adjustable shadow resolution and reflection quality to balance visuals with frame rate.

Requirements: Heliox requires OptiFine (or Iris Shaders for Fabric) and a dedicated graphics card. For 60 fps at 1080p, a GPU equivalent to an NVIDIA GTX 1060 or AMD RX 580 is recommended. Lower-end hardware may need to reduce shadow map size and disable certain effects. The shaderpack does not support integrated Intel graphics due to missing OpenGL features. It is compatible with most popular resource packs but may conflict with mods that alter sky rendering or lightning effects.
