HighFrames+ Lightweight Performance Shader

SHADER

A lightweight Minecraft shader delivering smooth gameplay with soft shadows, bloom, and animated water for low-end to mid-range PCs.

HighFrames+ is built for players who struggle with low frame rates on standard shaders but still want a more polished Minecraft look. It solves the common problem of demanding shaders causing lag on older hardware by keeping visual enhancements modest and performance-first. This shader is ideal for users with integrated graphics, budget GPUs, or anyone running Minecraft on a laptop who needs steady 60+ FPS without sacrificing all visual appeal.

Compared to the original HighFrames, HighFrames+ adds reflective water that reacts to nearby blocks and sky color, smoother wave animations, and a subtle bloom effect that softens bright highlights. Shadows are sharper but still optimized to avoid FPS drops. The optional cinematic letterbox effect frames the screen like a movie, but it can be turned off if it interferes with gameplay. Color grading is cleaned up for a slightly warmer, more natural tone—no over-saturated or washed-out look.

  • Enhanced reflective water – mirrors surrounding environment with low performance cost
  • Improved wave animations – smoother, more natural movement than basic water
  • Soft bloom and refined lighting – bright sources glow gently without washing out scenes
  • Cinematic letterbox (optional) – black bars top and bottom for a film-like view
  • Performance-focused optimization – tested on Intel UHD Graphics 620 and GTX 1050 at 60+ FPS

Requirements: HighFrames+ works on OptiFine (HD Ultra or newer) and Iris Shaders. It is compatible with Minecraft 1.16 to 1.20.x. Expect minor visual limitations: water reflections are not fully ray-traced, shadows may have slight aliasing in extreme angles, and distant terrain uses vanilla fog blending. Not recommended for players who want path tracing or advanced volumetric clouds. For everyone else, it offers a clean upgrade with no noticeable lag on most systems.
