Karma Shader: Nightmare Edition - Cinematic Horror Shaderpack
SHADERA horror shaderpack for Minecraft that turns darkness into a living threat with fear mechanics, hallucinations, and a blood moon.
Karma Shader: Nightmare Edition is a cinematic semi-realistic shaderpack designed for Minecraft players who want a psychological horror experience. It solves the problem of vanilla nights being too bright and safe by introducing a dynamic fear system, volumetric fog, and custom events that make the dark feel alive. This pack is intended for survival horror fans, modded playthroughs, or anyone who wants to turn their world into an oppressive environment where every shadow hides a threat.
The core feature is the Presence: staying in pitch-black areas raises a fear meter, causing visual warping, shadow movement, and glowing eyes to appear on cave walls. Light sources reduce the effect. In deep forests at night, temporary apparitions like Ghost Faces and tall shadow figures appear in the distance. The Silent Hill-style 3D ground fog drifts with wind, thickening during storms. A rare Blood Moon event turns the sky blood red and tints the entire world in crimson. The Nether is overhauled into pure darkness with only lava as light, falling ash, and black smoke columns. The End replaces the sky with a volumetric black ceiling, creating an inverted sea effect.
- Fear Mechanics: Vision warps and shadows crawl when you stay in darkness; glowing eyes appear on walls.
- Forest Apparitions: Ghostly figures and watcher eyes appear at night in wooded areas, vanishing when approached.
- Drifting Fog Banks: True 3D ground fog that moves with the wind and thickens during storms.
- Blood Moon Event: Rare nights with a crimson moon that stains the landscape red.
- Dimension Overhauls: Nether becomes pitch black with ashfall; End gets an inverted volumetric sky ceiling.
Requirements: This pack runs on the same engine as the original Karma Shader, so it needs a graphics card that supports OpenGL 3.3 or higher. It is optimized for medium to high settings but can be adjusted for lower-end hardware by disabling the fog and apparitions in the shader options. Note that the fear warping effects may cause motion sickness for some players. The pack is not suitable for young children or multiplayer servers where horror elements may be disruptive. Installation follows standard OptiFine or Iris Shaders methods.
