Orbit Shader – Deferred Rendering Shaderpack for Minecraft 1.21+
SHADERA deferred shaderpack for Minecraft 1.21+ on Iris/Sodium, offering PBR, screen-space reflections, volumetric lighting, and scalable presets from Low to Ultra.
Orbit Shader brings a deferred rendering pipeline to Minecraft Java Edition 1.21+, running exclusively on Iris and Sodium under Fabric. It addresses the flat, uniform lighting of vanilla by treating every surface as a material with direction‑dependent response. When paired with a compatible PBR resource pack, blocks exhibit realistic metallic reflections and rough diffuse scattering through a GGX BRDF energy‑conserving model. World builders, showcase creators, and anyone who finds standard shader packs limited will benefit from dynamic water reflections, weather‑driven puddles, and raymarched sunbeams that cut through canopies.
Performance is controllable with Low, Medium, High, and Ultra presets, making the pack usable on integrated graphics as well as dedicated GPUs. On lower settings heavy effects are reduced to keep frame times playable; the Ultra preset unlocks full screen‑space reflections, high sample SSAO, and dense volumetric god rays for maximum visual fidelity. This flexibility lets you balance cinematic appearance against smooth survival gameplay.
- Physically Based Rendering (GGX BRDF) – Roughness and metallicity from labPBR packs drive specular highlights, energy‑conserving diffuse falloff, and environment‑aware reflections on metal blocks.
- Screen Space Reflections – Water, wet puddles, and ice reflect nearby terrain and sky in screen space; works alongside the weather puddle system for mirrored ground during rain.
- Volumetric God Rays – Raymarched directional light shafts from the sun and moon pierce through leaves, doorways, and arches, with adjustable density and sample count.
- Procedural Weather Puddles – Rain accumulates on upward‑facing surfaces, lowering roughness and feeding real‑time reflections; puddles dry gradually when rain stops.
- Post Processing Suite – ACES filmic tonemapping compresses HDR to SDR; bloom isolates bright emitters like torches and lava; SSAO adds soft contact shadows in crevices; PCF‑filtered shadow maps reduce aliasing and fade naturally at a distance.
The shaderpack requires Minecraft 1.21+, Iris 1.7 or newer, and Sodium 0.5+ on the Fabric mod loader. It does not function with OptiFine or on Forge alone. Physically based material effects only appear when a standard PBR resource pack (labPBR format) is active; without one, blocks render with the default look. The deferred pipeline demands OpenGL 4.3 capable hardware. Screen‑space effects like reflections and ambient occlusion are limited to geometry currently visible on screen, so off‑screen objects are not reflected. The Low preset can run on some integrated GPUs, but Ultra settings expect a dedicated graphics card for acceptable frame rates.
